This ended up being an odd con, beginning with the group staying at an overflow hotel. We've never done this before and I don't we ever will again. Driving to and from the con was a hassle. The only upside was the breakfast in the morning. No poptarts here!
I only wore cosplay over the entire weekend: the Twin Victims. It was fun to scare people and I got a Judge's Award during the cosplay contest. There are a couple pictures of the cosplay floating around, but I'll wait till the photoshoot I had with Boike is ready before I post anything. He always does well by my monsters.

I started with my head dummy Adolf and oil clay. After sculpting and a failed paster mold, I finally got it to work and cast the final product in rd-407 latex. The latex was tinted with blue to save in painting time. The actual painting was done with an airbrush, then sealed with perma-wet.
Oh. And come like my group's Facebook page and keep up to date with what we're doing with costumes and what conventions we're going to!

]]><![CDATA[My one day at SXSW: A cosplayer's perspective]]>Tue, 13 Mar 2012 12:04:00 -0800http://www.moonwildflower.com/1/post/2012/03/my-one-day-at-sxsw-a-cosplayers-perspective.htmlAfter years of living in Texas, I finally made it to SXSW. For those not familiar, it's a big trade show that features music, movies and tech. For the past six years or so, they've had a section called Screenburn for everything video game related. And this year, they had a cosplay contest.
Wearing cosplay there was different from being at an anime or comic book convention. Overall, there may have been about 30 cosplayers there total. And hundreds of none-costumed guests that couldn't get enough of seeing the costumes. I could get used to the amount of attention a costume receives there. lol
Throughout Sunday, I and those of my group were interviewed and filmed at least three times. Erin and I were even asked to stand next to a Dutch reporter while he was being filmed.
A big congratulations goes out to Evil Pastry Studios for running the cosplay contest so well. It was on time (a big problem some cons have) and very professional.
As for the results of the contest, everyone in the group won something. I recieved a Judge's Award for Jun. Erin got Best VideoGame Adapatation for Rydia from FF4 and my brother Carl got Best in Show for his Commander Sheperd from ME2. I'm so proud of him!

This is my first time working with both oil and acrylic on the same canvas. The black and the white are both acrylic. Everything three dimensional is oil. The prompt was to illustrate a "young female wizard with black hair who wears white with gold trim". I took it literally.

This cold weather is not a prop-maker's dream. So many of the materials and chemicals used don't cure properly under 60 degrees. And that is why I haven't been able to post anything else about Mehrune's Razor. I have however begun working on the Jagged Crown.
I should be able to slush cast the pep model by next week and get to work on detailing. Ignore the mask thing: it's for another commission.
