Spring Break 03/05/2010
Seems my spring break is going to be busy. Not out in some amazing local, but busy with homework and freelance stuff. Of course, the addtion of my new Intuos 4 tablet helps. It was amazing to use last night. I just have to get used to having all the bottons assigned to whatever I need instead of using the actual keyboard. To break it in, I've decided to redo an old illustration. The one with the boy riding the dragon. And I've decided to enter a little art 'contest' on the blog of the AD for Wizards of the Coast. Also, as stated on the first page, I'm going to be doing some small updates to the site. Mainly, removing and updating the artwork in the portfolio section. One last note: I'll be done with the commission soon and will posting. I just need to do some more digital mockups to make sure I've got the angles right before I actually add in the final touches. Add Comment Midterm 02/28/2010
Finished and mounted the midterm for Digital Illustration. I'm happy with how it turned out. The printer at Office Mas played with the colors a bit, but I'll live. It still looks good. Oh. And I finally started cleaning up my ODST helmet. I'm thinking a black and red theme. Letters and seasons and PBR 02/21/2010
Got some of the homework done. For illustration class, we had a project that involved type. I took the first letter of each season and illustrated it. I had fun drawing all the leaves and petals. It was drawn first by hand and colored in Painter with the Digital Watercolor brush. Still no new intuos4 tablet. Still backordered. Oh well. At least it's coming. Haven't gotten the chance to work on any personal stuff yesterday or today. The PBR tournament in Dallas yesterday took up all of my Saturday. But that was for my mom's birthday and so worth it. She really enjoyed it and I learned alot. That tv was amazing! I found myself watching the tv most of the time. The detail was jaw-dropping. The bulls were cute too. lol Super amazing homework weekend! 02/19/2010
Yeah. Fun times. Not only do I have my normal homework to do, but the Illustration teacher wanted to challenge me and has given me an extra project. I now have a month to storyboard as much of Neil Gailman's Neverwhere as I can. I'm excited though. Went out and bought a copy so that I can write notes in it. I'll be doing digitally too. Also going to try and get the commission finished this weekend and some more of the novel written. Another interesting note, my super loving mom has decided to investmore in my future by buying me a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. Unfortunatly, it's backwordered so I have no idea when it will come in. sob In class assignment 02/10/2010
Had an in class assignment in digital illustration. Wasn't that hard. Teacher gave us a stock photo and told us to alter it. Not having my wacom handy, I resorted to using adjustments in color, dodge and burn, as well as a filter. While I normally don't like and or do this kind of photo-manipulation, I actually kinda like this one. Odd huh? Eye study 02/05/2010
Working on the thumbs and roughs for my midterm for digital illustration already. I also spent a good portion of critiques yesterday drawing my classmates. They were such good models... lol And for you-know-who-you-are, I'm still working on the commission. Colored Portrait 01/29/2010
Teacher like my portrait. The next step was to color it digitally with odd colorings. I picked yellow and red. The teacher also challenged me to add a background. I picked a dark mysterious forest. I don't do alot of tress, but I'm happy with how these have turned out. Doing alot of art today in fact. Working on another assignment for my normal Illustration class that involves some digital coloring. I've got a bunch of thumbnails to do for a midterm project as well. I know, midterm project already? But that's how a class flows that only meets once a week. Portrait for Digital Illustration Class 01/25/2010
Finished my first art related assignment for the semester. Done for the Digital Illustration class, as stated above. The prof said something about scanning it in, so I'm assuming that we're going to digitally color it. Hope my wacom tablet will stop screwing up and work properly by then. Class and freelance stuff 01/23/2010
After the first week, I have to say that this should be an interesting semester. Lots to do. Lots and lots to do, both personally and academically. I'll be doing a portrait of my brother if I can get him to sit down long enough. I've got some thumbnails to do for a commission, some sketching for Carl's comic and more writing to do for my novel. Oh. Good news on that. A good friend of mine who has connections in the literary world is finding an agent for me! I'm stoked! I told her she has time though. I'm around 100,000 words at the moment, and maybe 3/4's of the way though. There is still some tightening to do of course, but I hope to have it ready for the agent by May. Did some concept art tonight too. Working on the Rolick Unit. Giggles said that he wanted it to have a four-pronged mouth. I wasn't sure in how exactly, so I did it both ways. Better safe than sorry. Two Illustration Classes 01/21/2010
I've got two illustration classes this semester among the other 3 art classes. The digital one seems interesting, thoughs some of the stuff covered seems reallys simple to me... The other, however, is off to a good start... Seems the school didn't have the right time on my sheet... So I got to the class an hour and a half after it had started and the teacher had already released the students. Thankfully, the teacher is a peach and didn't count me absent. She even gave me the homework and offered to introduce me to a graduate who knows a bunch about concept art and such. This is going to be a good learning experience. I can feel it. The class itself isn't geared towards those who can draw... Sad, but oh well. I'm going to work and upgrade the projects as best I can. |
