Contests and art books 01/13/2011
 I took the time to enter a small Bungie art contest. Task was to figure out how Auntie Dot looked. Here's my interpretation. I also sent in my Black Gryphon piece to Spectrum in the hopes that it will be included in the latest publishing of their amazing art book. And I just picked it up from the bookstore. It's pretty exciting to see something I've done in printed form. My illustration is on the page right before "Midnight in Heart of Midlothian". Also just got back from seeing Megamind. Excellent movie. Much better than I expected. I've never been a fan of Will Ferrel. I must admit though, his voice acting was amazing. I forgot that it was even him doing it. I'm still debating on how much of it was mo-cap vs actual animation. It was super fluid. And the cloth.... I'm still in awe. It crinkled in the arm pits. And the capes. Wow. Just wow. I would love to add the art book to my collection. Ikkicon is a month and a half away. Been working really hard on the group's new cosplay. The foam technique is working out really well. I'm even using it for my weapon. Carl is going with wood for his. Will make sense when the whole thing is revealed. New Halo covers 11/10/2010
 Fog Study A  Fog Study B We of course start with my warm-ups of the day. Decided to do fog after seeing so much of it yesterday on my morning drive. Harder to paint than it looks.  The Flood by Kenneth Scott 343 seems to be collecting a nice bunch of artists. And I'm glad that they are being put to work in redoing some of the older Halo novels. The Flood was one of the first released. The art really wasn't the best. I even did my own version of the cover. But this is the actual version of the cover, done by Kenneth Scott. An improvment indeed. I'm looking forward to picking up this new version just for the art, as well as the new forerunner book that is coming out. It's cover was done by Sparth. I can finally say something about this... I won! My entry was selected to represent the story "Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian" and will be included in an upcoming printing of the book. I can't wait to go to a bookstore and find one of my own illustrations in a book... I have to admit that I had forgotten about this contest. I'd check the Halo Waypoint page once in a while to see what was up... It was a big surprise to receive the email. And an honor. I can't believe we did it. Kat and I finished our armor and got to enter it in the cosplay walk-on contest. And we won 2nd place! I love it. We walked on stage, did two poses, then took off our helmets and the crowd freaked. Oh no! Two girls in Halo armor! I had so much fun this weekend. My body is stiff from how I had to walk. Sigh. Spent too much time on the Halo painting today. Starting to pick it apart. I need to just walk away and let my eyes and hands rest. After a good night's sleep, I should be able to finish it tomorrow. If I don't look at it from the working artist's perspective, then I like it. But oh, when that paint brush is in my hand...
