Colored Portrait 01/29/2010
Teacher like my portrait. The next step was to color it digitally with odd colorings. I picked yellow and red. The teacher also challenged me to add a background. I picked a dark mysterious forest. I don't do alot of tress, but I'm happy with how these have turned out. Doing alot of art today in fact. Working on another assignment for my normal Illustration class that involves some digital coloring. I've got a bunch of thumbnails to do for a midterm project as well. I know, midterm project already? But that's how a class flows that only meets once a week. Portrait for Digital Illustration Class 01/25/2010
Finished my first art related assignment for the semester. Done for the Digital Illustration class, as stated above. The prof said something about scanning it in, so I'm assuming that we're going to digitally color it. Hope my wacom tablet will stop screwing up and work properly by then. Class and freelance stuff 01/23/2010
After the first week, I have to say that this should be an interesting semester. Lots to do. Lots and lots to do, both personally and academically. I'll be doing a portrait of my brother if I can get him to sit down long enough. I've got some thumbnails to do for a commission, some sketching for Carl's comic and more writing to do for my novel. Oh. Good news on that. A good friend of mine who has connections in the literary world is finding an agent for me! I'm stoked! I told her she has time though. I'm around 100,000 words at the moment, and maybe 3/4's of the way though. There is still some tightening to do of course, but I hope to have it ready for the agent by May. Did some concept art tonight too. Working on the Rolick Unit. Giggles said that he wanted it to have a four-pronged mouth. I wasn't sure in how exactly, so I did it both ways. Better safe than sorry. Two Illustration Classes 01/21/2010
I've got two illustration classes this semester among the other 3 art classes. The digital one seems interesting, thoughs some of the stuff covered seems reallys simple to me... The other, however, is off to a good start... Seems the school didn't have the right time on my sheet... So I got to the class an hour and a half after it had started and the teacher had already released the students. Thankfully, the teacher is a peach and didn't count me absent. She even gave me the homework and offered to introduce me to a graduate who knows a bunch about concept art and such. This is going to be a good learning experience. I can feel it. The class itself isn't geared towards those who can draw... Sad, but oh well. I'm going to work and upgrade the projects as best I can. The Edge 01/17/2010
Finished the painting that I was playing with. Would have posted it sooner, but the site wouldn't allow me to upload any pics. Odd... Oh well. After trying to create some sort of texture on the wall, I decided to make space. It's been a while since I've done anything with stars and nebulae. And I now remember why. I loved creating the gas, going for a finger painting approach. But the stars were created one at a time via brush. I know that there are easier ways to create stars. But I'm a control freak and it makes me happy to know where each one is place. Subpages 01/13/2010
I'm trying something new with the subpage feature. I've decided to put my sketchbook page as a subpage under the portfolio page. You can still get to both. Hope this isn't too confusing. Oil and Acrylic 01/12/2010
Not together of course. That would be bad. lol Found my unused oils last night and in a fit of boredom decided to try them out. I've only used oils once in my life, and that was years ago. Killing two birds with one stone, I threw in a face study. I'm happy with it. I like to look at the brush strokes. It's interesting in how blotches of color can make up a picture when you take a step back. Also did some more work on the acrylic painting. I removed all the sun light that was streaming through. Not sure where to go from here.... Digital art layers and concept art 01/10/2010
With a week until school starts back up, I'm trying to get as much of my own stuff done before I'm swamped with projects. Two illustration classes are going to take over my life, not to mention the other three art classes too. So, here's the action shot for the Creethe Unit. I've trying something different with my latest stuff. I still make the sketch layer into a multiply layer. There are two layers below that, one for the background color and one for the basic colors of the sketch. Now I add an extra layer on top of it all and paint on that too. So far, I'm liking the effect. Working out a problem by painting 01/08/2010
I'm working on a painting right now. Must have mentioned it last post. It has no real purpose other than I've been wanting to paint for a while. It's more a way for me to play. I've run into a snag. I'm not sure how to proceed when it comes to the light. The first picture is of the painting as is. The others are alterations created digitally to see how the changes would play out. I've played with the dark and the light mostly. I'll need to sleep on it before I make any real changes. Odessa Chapter 11 01/07/2010
Just finished chapter 11. I enjoyed drawing the elite. Haven't done many of those. The Halo Encyclopedia helps alot. So much that I didn't know about the Halo universe. Carl is loving it too. He even found a loop we can use when we make a quick comic. Working on a new painting too. Still going with the odd city theme that can be seen throughout all my work. lol I can't get away from it. |
